Our Students perform their check-out dives, also known as “Open Water”, at Dutch Springs in Bethlehem, Pa. Dutch Springs is a rock quarry that has now become a great place to dive. We like to do dives here because we know the conditions are fairly consistent, good visibility and no current, and there are some cool things to see. Throughout the years the people at Dutch Springs have sunk a number of vehicles ranging from a fire truck, school bus, crane and even a helicopter. We do most of our training on some submerged platforms suspended in about 30 feet of water. If there are nice conditions we also like to do check-out dives at the Gull Island Park, right down the street from our shop. Gull Island is a great place to see some of the local marine life and experience some of the local conditions in an area that is easy to get to and dive. Tide is a concern as well as the visibility in the water, that is why Dutch is usually where we do most of our Check-Out dives.
